  1. My beard is light and my skin is sensitive. Goodfella should release all three versions like Merkur: Closed Comb, Open Comb (available currently), and Slant. The Merkur HD Closed Comb is more aggressive than the Goodfella Open Comb. It has more blade exposure. The Merkur Futur on a setting of 1.5 to 2 is more aggressive than the Merkur HD. I also have the Merkur Open and Closed Comb Barber Pole. I will let you know how those compare after I try them. I need to pick up a slant for comparison, but I would assume that it would be quite similar to the Futur in terms of blade exposure. The Futur really is like a straight razor in many respects in that you can feel the raw blade gliding along the surface of the skin.

  2. I had been using a Merkur HD for 3 weeks prior and that gave me 3-4 nicks first shave and then eventually none at all. But I gave up DE shaving because my face was turning bright red. It was aggrivating my slight rosacea. So I returned to cartridges. Then I read about the Goodfella and how it wasn’t very aggressive. So I gave that a go, plus it’s made in NZ and I got shaving cream samples and a good blade supply.  It was such a good deal. I found it didn’t cut as close as the Merkur but the shave was perfectly OK with Crystal blades which apparently are recommended to start with.  I’ll try the Derby’s soon and I’m expecting a closer shave, I wanted to start out safe.  It was the Derby’s in the Merkur which gave me the skin problems. But it does look like the Goodfella suits me better.
